As the most important activity of 2008 International Plum Blossom Festival of Nanjing, China, the selection of calligraphic works and paintings through evaluation for the first "Little Angles of Plum Blossom" started amidst applause of pupils of Bachaxiang Elementary School, Jingkou District in Zhenjiang. The opening ceremony started formally at 14: 30 pm. In the wake of enthusiastic opening speeches by Ling Zi and Li Yu, two famous hostesses of Jiangsu Children’s TV Channel as well as energetic dances by 30 young performers, vice director Shi Ailing of the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum made a speech. After expressing gratitude to various organizers for their efforts and children for their ardent participation on the spot, vice director Shi Ailing emphatically introduced the situation of this Plum Blossom Festival and invited all children of Zhenjiang to take a tour to Plum Blossom Hill in Nanjing, an invitation which received enthusiastic applause from children. 

Amidst salutes, vice director Shi Ailing and several other leaders started the opening ceremony. All leaders present also granted stipends, books and exercise-books to children with their families in economic plight. Representatives of pupils having received such help made speeches.
Finally, the ceremony came to a close amidst the beautiful song by Sister Moon, a hostess. The initial contest for the selection of calligraphic works and paintings through evaluation for “Little Angels of Plum Blossom” in Zhenjiang as a sub—contest area also took place on the spot which was permeated with jubilance with active participation of children.

On the afternoon of December 25, 2007, the square of Huayuan Elementary School in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province was thronged with people and resounded loudly with applauses. There were over 1700 children from schools of Yangzhou, cheering up the beginning of the selection of calligraphic works and paintings through evaluation for a joyful provincial tour named “Five kind of happiness in blossom and journey of angels” and the first “Little Angels of Plum Blossom” in Jiangsu province. Shen Yigong, vice director of Provincial Hope Project Office and Liao Jinhan, head of the Section of Publicity and Education of the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, attended the opening ceremony for this activity.

Ten-year-old Qi Guangze, the 141th contestant from Sanyuanqiao Elementary School of Yangzhou, chose “My grandfather” as his performance in Yangzhou dialect in order to distinguish himself at this contest. His interesting story in authentic Yangzhou dialect amused all on the spot.
At last, 15 children of Yangzhou as a contest area successfully entered the final contest in Yangzhou, of whom 10 will become “Little Angels of Plum Blossom”.
