The racing ground for the whirling in the swift current by kayaks
With a total investment of over 20 million yuan, it was designed by French Power Company which designed a same project for Athens Olympic Games. Extremely similar to Athens with regard to the course design, the main course for the whirling in swift current by kayaks in Nanjing is 328 meters long, with a 1.7-meter difference between each of 100 meters. This is the first one of its kind since it was completely built according to international standards. Four pumps at the beginning of the course can be operated at the same time and that 16 tons of water can be filled in for each second, hence fully meeting the requirements of the race. The “Hive” in the middle of the course is the groove for moving obstacles which can be placed at any time. When coming to investigate, a French responsible for this project from French Power Company spoke highly of the main course, commenting that this was even better than the one in Athens.
When the Tenth National Games was held in Nanjing, White Horse Park succeeded in holding the race of whirling in swift current by kayaks and fulfilling the task of training concerned. Through nine-month efforts of various departments after the Tenth National Games was over, the event of whirling in swift current by kayaks has formally been made public at last. Some local citizens have personally experienced the stimulation and coolness brought by this athletic event. For the sake of safety, all tourists wishing to experience whirling in swift current by kayaks should wear shorts, vests, life-coats and helmets in advance. They are not allowed to operate the rudder since there are professional coaches in charge it. As introduced by Zhang Yihen, a staff member on the spot, though the course for whirling in swift current by kayaks in Nanjing is artificial, it will be OK as long as tourists get hold of the ropes while enjoying the thrill because the terrain, environment and water-volume are all under manual control. Therefore, compared with floating naturally in a traditional way over the river in Zhangjiajie, the whirling in swift current by kayaks is both stimulating and safe.
