“This Children’s Day, I don’t want any present”
“Melody of Love” Echoed above Nanjing’s Open-air Musical Hall

200 children put on a piano concert at the Open-air Musical Hall south of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum to celebrate their holiday on the International Children’s Day. This concert was jointly organized by Nanjing Little Performers’ Musical Garden (Nanjing Leaf Musical Art Training Center) and the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum Scenic Area for the children suffered Sichuan Earthquake.
During the 1.5-hour concert, children performed dozens of Chinese and foreign musical compositions. They also delivered recitations to pray for children suffering the earthquake and read a proposal to raise contribution. With piano accompaniment, all the children participating in the activity expressed a common aspiration, “We want no present for this Children’s Day. Let’s save money to help children in the earthquake-stricken area.” Some children donated their pennies and lunar New Year gift money. Others brought books, stationery and toys. Many adults were deeply moved and joined them. The activity totally raised RMB 8448.6 yuan, 300 books and several bags of clothes, quilts and blankets.
As the home of the spirit of philanthropy, which is also the city spirit of Nanjing, the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum Scenic Area has been actively taking part in various causes of public welfare in years. Every year, they go to Guizhou and dispense stipends to poor pupils; set up Sun Yat-sen Scholarships to reward excellent students and teachers in a primary school and a middle school in Nanjing; organize propaganda team to promote the spirit of philanthropy in more than 30 schools around Nanjing and its suburbs. For its great contributions, the scenic area was awarded the title of National Patriotism Education Base.

After the earthquake, the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum Scenic Area and its staff spontaneously donated RMB 540 000 to help people in the stricken area.
