With the application of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum in Nanjing for a “double heritage” in the world formally initiated, ten thousand people signed their names to express their support
“Mum, I want to sign my name!” On June 12, on the Philanthropy Square at Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, a three-year-old child took up a marker pen and earnestly wrote down his name “Zhang Yue” on a streamer.
June 12 this year happened to be the fifth “day of cultural heritages” in China, as well as the day when the opening ceremony of the Cultural Festival of the Ming Tomb in Nanjing in 2010 was held. On this special day, a large-scale signing activity for the application of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum for “The natural and cultural heritage in the world” was officially held on the Philanthropy Square at Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, which also marked the formal initiation of the application of the Scenic Area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum for “The Natural and Cultural Heritage in the World”.
According to Yu Jinbao, an inspector of the Administration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, “double-heritage” refers to natural and cultural heritage. At present, there is no scenic area of double-heritage in Jiangsu Province, while Wuyi Mountain and Huangshan Mountain in other provinces were selected “double-heritage” as early as two years ago. As the scope of this application for “double-heritage”, the entire Scenic Area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum covers a total area of 31 square kilometers, including such regions as the Ming Tomb and Purple Mountain. The Scenic Area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum was successfully selected into The Preparatory Name List of National Natural and Cultural Heritages in China of the Second Batch publicized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development early this year, which denotes that The Scenic Area of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum has acquired the first “admission ticket” for applying for “the double-heritage” in the world, having made an important step toward “application for double-heritage”.
Yu Jinbao said, “If this application is approved, another highlight will be added to Nanjing as an ancient capital. On the other hand, it is necessary for citizens of Nanjing to jointly take an active part in various activities of applying for ‘double-heritage’.”
