Tablet engravings in cursive characters by Yu Youren: Compiled by Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s
Memorial Hall. Published by Jiangsu People’s Publishing House in December 1993. The main
content is about a farewell speech by premier Sun Yat-sen at Huangpu Military Academy on
November 3,1924. 
Mr. Yu Youren, originally named Boxun, was born in Sanyuan county, Shanxi province in 1878.
In his early years, he followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great forerunner of democratic revolution, and
threw himself into the Revolution of 1911 aimed at overthrowing the feudal rule of the Qing
dynasty. Mr. Yu was not only a forerunner of democratic revolution, but also a famous patriotic
poet and outstanding calligrapher since the late Qing dynasty. As a poet of Nanshe Society in its
early days, he was highly accomplished in poetry, Ci and Qu, having written quite many poems
related to the rise and fall of China and Chinese nation. His calligraphic art, representing his
greatest achievement, is particularly held in respect among people.

“The whole world as one community” was inscribed by Dr. Sun Yat-sen first for students of
Fudan university. As informed by the Section of Research into the History of Fudan University, Madam Song Qingling personally ground ink on an ink-slab for Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Now, the
original plate, a cultural relic under national protection, is kept in Shaoxing Hall of Cultural
Relics.
